For more than 90 years, CPV Manufacturing, Inc. has been at the forefront of engineering innovation in valves and fittings. CPV pioneered the O-Seal system concept and many other revolutionary designs. Other manufacturers may try to imitate, but CPV's technology, quality integrity and experience are the real thing. At CPV, research and development are always centered on how well a new product will solve a specific challenge. This means new designs always start with customer needs and are never isolated from the job they will be doing in the field.

This philosophy began with CPV’s founder, Isaiah Engle. Back in 1915, this enterprising farmer, who loved repairing his neighbors' machinery, left Abilene, Kansas for Philadelphia and opened a machine shop. Soon after, he began making pump valves for large steam operating reciprocating pumps. To fix the problem of leakage, Isaiah designed a revolutionary soft seat that increased operating efficiency and durability.

New Line of Check Valves

In the 1940s, CPV developed a line of check valves, which effectively protect centrifugal pumps by encasing the pump valve concept into a housing. The highly reliable Silent Check Valve protects the pumps from the destructive surge caused by reverse flow and eliminates the problem of water hammer. Today, these valves could be in use wherever there’s a pipeline and they can be found in high rise structures such as the Space Needle in Seattle and the CN Tower in Toronto.

CPV Joins the Navy

In the 1950s CPV designed and manufactured the couplings used on the catapults that launch aircraft at sea. To meet Navy requirements, CPV designed a specialized test stand utilizing O-rings to enable quick assembly and disassembly. This lead to the development of O-SEAL fittings employing a recessed O-ring to seal the mating flat faces. The Navy and other industrial customers seeking leakproof and reliable connections, continue to benefit from this innovation.

The CPV O-SEAL® System  

Since the 1950's, CPV engineers have continued to develop revolutionary valve designs including a better globe valve for pressures to 6,000 psi using the O-SEAL end connections which permits "slip in - slip out" speed and efficiency. 

This system can withstand heavy vibration or pressure surges far better than gasket or metal-to-metal seals.  CPV was the first to design the O-SEAL system concept and it has grown into our largest market.  CPV has maintained the interchangeability of these components for more than forty years.
