Applications
Look Ma, No "Cheater Bar."
Opening and closing valves can become a major problem
for companies operating high-purity gas filling stations. If a minute
leak develops in a closed valve and goes undetected, an entire mix
can be compromised. To avoid the problem, workers often try to assure
tight shut offs by resorting to the use of "cheater bars." This
can only compound the problem because excess valve handle torque damages
the valve components.
Fortunately there is a simple and cost effective solution to leaky
shut-offs in high pressure valves:
Switching to O-Seal Valves from CPV Manufacturing,
Inc.
Oxygen Service
Company (OSC), a specialty gases distributor in St. Paul, MN discovered
this answer when the company decided to try 0-Seal Valves as an experiment
three years ago. It all started when Mike McFadden, the representative
handling the OSC account for CPV distributor Mueller Sales Corp.
in New Hope, MN learned that OSC was setting up a new helium gas rack
where leakproof integrity would be of the highest priority. Since
the Teflon seals on the valves that OSC had previously used were easily
damaged, the company decided it was time to try CPV valves. Given
the precision control required by this application, the rugged durability
of CPV valves would make a perfect match.
Not only did these valves deliver absolute reliability,
they are specifically designed to be opened and closed by hand. No "Cheater bar" required.
Even after thousands of openings and closings, 0-Seal Valves from CPV
will continue to deliver absolute leakproof assurance to 6000 psi.
In addition to the CPV 380 Panel Mounted 0-Seal Valves ordered for
this first job, McFadden convinced OSC to add an assortment of CPV
0-Seal bulkhead and tailpiece fittings to assure gas-mixing reliability
throughout the system.
Additional CPV O-Seal Valve advantages
During the trial period OSC found the 0-Seal System's
reliability made it a lot easier for workers to change from one gas
mix to another. Moreover, the slip-in, slip-out installation design
meant 0-Seal Valves can be readily taken off-line to change seals and
other internal valve parts during routine maintenance.
As a result of these and other superior performance
features, OSC decided to change over their entire 40,000,000 cu.
ft. per year filling operation to CPV 0-Seal Valves & Fittings.
CPV has been a leading manufacturer of valves and
fittings since 1915. The company's innovative designs are well suited
to standard applications, as well as one-of-a-kind custom requirements
like the OSC installation.
